Nigeria Oshoala Shortlisted For 2023 Ballon d’Or Award

Asisat Oshoala, a striker for the Super Falcons, has made the 2023 Ballon d’Or shortlist.


The news was announced by France Football on their Ballon d’Or Twitter account on Friday.


The Barcelona star was a Ballon d’Or nominee in the Socrates Award category.

The Socrates Award, established in 2022 and named for the late Brazilian football player Socrates, honors the best acts of solidarity carried out by committee winners.

For the award, she was one of five players nominated.

Other contenders for the prize are Vinicius (Brazil/Real Madrid), Antonio Rudiger (Germany/Real Madrid), Marcus Rashford (England/Manchester United), and Alex Morgan (USA/San Diego Wave).

The current African women’s Player of the Year was a 2022 Ballon d’Or contender as well.

On September 6, the nominees for the men’s, women’s, Yachine Trophy, and Kopa Trophy of the Ballon d’Or award will be revealed.

With the Falcons, Oshoala is now in Australia getting ready for the FIFA women’s World Cup this year.


Group B includes the Falcons along with Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland.
