Kenya Shabana funds drive committee to start work, targets Ksh100m

A funds drive committee to help raise money for FKF Premier League newbies Shabana FC will officially start their work on Wednesday.

According to Shabana Patron Sam Nyamweya, the committee which was picked and endorsed unanimously during a meeting chaired by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu at Bomas of Kenya is targeting to raise Ksh100 million before the new season kicks off in August.

“With the league set to kick off in a month’s time we want to get down to work and I can confirm the funds drive committee will hold their first meeting on Wednesday in Nairobi,” said Nyamweya, adding: “The committee’s target is to raise Ksh100million inclusive of sponsorship and we will also approach the government to assist community clubs.

“Part of the money to be raised will go towards the recruitment exercise of new players as we get ready to kick off the season.”

The committee comprises Machogu, National Assembly Chief Whip, Silvanus Osoro, Nyamweya, who is the chairman, former Kisii Senator Joash Maangi, Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, Peter Gitaa (CEO of Bomas of Kenya), Norah Ratemo, Jared Ombongi, Walter Nyambati, Hon. Daniel Manduku (Nyaribari Masaba), Hon. Zaheer Jhanda Mp Nyaribari Chache, among others.

Shabana made a return to the top-flight after 17 years in the cold after winning the National Super League last season and they will kick off their campaign against Murang’a Seal FC on August 26.
