Transfers Done Deal: Aziz Kayondo signs for Hapoel Tel Aviv

Uganda Cranes left back Aziz Kayondo has completed a move to Israel giants Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Kayondo joined the side on a year-long loan spell from Spanish side CD Leganes. The former Vipers SC defender inked a contract until June 30, 2024, and the club announced his arrival: “Aziz Abdul Kayondo, left-winger and defender from Spanish side Leganes, has concluded his terms at the club,” adding: “He will sign a contract for one season with an option for another season, subject to passing medical tests.”

The club further confirmed Kayondo will immediately be sent out on loan for a season, with an option to buy by stating: “Kayondo will be loaned out for one season with an option to buy at the end of the season.”

Kayondo left Vipers in April last year to join the Czech Republic side MFK Vyskov. The Club immediately loaned Kayondo to MLS Next Professional League side Real Monarchs. He featured for Uganda U20 and U23 teams and made his Uganda Cranes debut in the 2022 World Cup Qualifier against Rwanda.

He was named one of three finalists for the 2021 Airtel-Fufa Awards Men’s Player of the Year. Kayondo was also named in the Best XI for the 2020 U20 Afcon team after leading the Hippos to the finals of the tournament.
