Uganda Done Deal: URA FC unveil Walusimbi after releasing eight players

Ugandan Premier League side URA FC have beefed up their squad with the acquisition of Enock Walusimbi.

“URA FC is delighted to announce that Enock Walusimbi has joined the club on a two-year contract,” read part of a statement on the club’s official website, adding: “He joins as a free agent from Scottish League one side Peterhead FC. A leader, Walusimbi who is calm and good at aerial duels can ably play in central defence as well as right back.”

“Lucio” is also a Uganda Premier League and Cecafa Kagame club cup champion with Express FC in 2021. In the UPL winning season were he was skipper at Express, he featured in 24 games, keeping 14 clean sheets. Walusimbi also previously captained Uganda (U23) KOBS in 2021 and made his debut for Uganda Cranes on August 29, 2021, in the 2-1 defeat against Ethiopia and has since made 9 appearances.

Last season while at Peterhead, he made six appearances. His experience and leadership will without a doubt be of importance and value to the Tax Collectors in their attempt to restore the old day’s silverware glory.

His arrival comes hours after the Tax Collectors announced releasing eight players – George Senkaaba (released) Paul Patrick Mbowa (contract expiry) Patrick Matovu (released) Benjamin Nyakoojo (released) Yusuf Wasswa (released) Hannington Ssebwalunyo (contract expiry) Kabon Living (contract expiry) Kokas Alou (released), Micheal Lubowa (released), Salim Abdallah (released) and Ronald Dickson Kigongo.

Walusimbi becomes URA’s tenth signing of the current window after goalkeeper Rogers Omedwa, Kisiriko Denis Luzige, Kisolo John Innocent, Amis Bwangani, and Godfrey Sekibengo as well as Aliro Moses Okabo, Ibrahim Wammanah, Denis Otim, and Norman Namanya.
