FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP FIFA Hands James Two Match Ban For Stamp On Alozie

FIFA on Thursday handed down a two-match suspension to England striker Lauren James for the stamp on Michelle Alozie of Nigeria that resulted in the latter stages of the FIFA Women’s World Cup player receiving a red card.

In the 87th minute of Monday’s game in Brisbane, the 21-year-old Chelsea attacker was dismissed; champions of Europe England went on to win the game on penalties.

She will miss Saturday’s quarterfinal match between England and Colombia in Sydney as well as any potential semifinal, but she will be allowed to play again if the Lionesses advance to the final on August 20.

As an expression of his regret, James tweeted to Alozie on Tuesday: “All my love and respect to you… I am sorry for what happened.”

Lauren is truly sorry for her conduct that resulted in the red card and is full of remorse, the England team said in a statement they also posted.

It is completely inconsistent with who she is.
