Nigeria Premier League NPL Sign Deal To Train, Compete With La Liga Teams

The Spanish league La Liga and the Nigeria Premier League NPL formed a collaboration on Thursday to train Nigerian players.

At a press conference in Lagos, Gbenga Elegbeleye, the chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), made the announcement.

As a result, the NPFL established a Technical Committee to choose 11 All-Star league best players at the conclusion of the 2023/2024 season so they could train and compete with the top La Liga teams.

According to Mr. Elegbeleye, the collaboration was created in order to increase the viability of the Nigerian league and reward effort.

On September 9, all around the nation, the Nigerian league is set to begin.

Harrison Jala serves as the chairman of the All Stars technical committee, which also includes Austin Eguaveon, Daniel Amokachi, Godwin Nwa, Deji Omotoyinbo, Segun Agbede, and Mitchel Obi.

The 11 All-Star team and the coach with the highest point total will fly to Spain for two weeks to play friendly matches against elite La Liga teams.

“We undertook a thorough process of selecting members of this panel to cut across players, coaches and the media.

“We picked the committee members across board.

“We picked persons with the right pedigree and there is no doubt that they will give us the right squad each month.

“So, those selected understand that this is a call to service

“There’s an agreement we have secured with top La Liga Clubs to host our NPFL All Stars squad to play against some other top teams in Spain.

This will further enrich the experience of our players, as they will have the opportunity to play with the best,” he said.

The group is prepared for the task at hand, according to Mr. Jala, the committee’s chairman.

In order to build on the success of the prior season, he promised that the 2023–2024 league season would be more inventive.

“This is a call to service; we intend to make fairness our watchword and give our league a facelift, and make it better than the 2022/2023 league season.

“If you check the calibre of people on the committee you’d see that they’re seasoned professionals in their irrespective fields.

“We are open to suggestions and ideas but fairness remains our watchword,” he said

The Group Managing Director of GTI Group and the NPL were praised by Basil Kabbani, the Chairman of Propel Sports Africa.

He disclosed that three extra AI cameras have been supplied in time for the 2023–2024 season.
