CAF Champions League CAFCL:Enyimba, Remo Stars Fails To Scale Past Through First Round

There will be no Nigeria club when the 2023 -2024 CAF Champions League kicks off as Enyimba and Remo Stars crashed out in the preliminary round on Sunday.

After losing 3-2 on penalties to the champions of Ghana, Medeama SC, at Ikenne, Remo Stars was ousted from the CAF Champions League.

In the first round second leg match, the Sky Blue Stars prevailed 1-0.

The two-leg match ended with a 1-1 overall score.

The ball from a corner kick was fumbled by the Medeama custodian in the 72nd minute, giving Remo Stars the advantage.

In injury time, the visitors’ Samuel Anakwe scored, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

After 90 minutes, the game was decided by penalties.

Medeama scored three of their extra-point attempts, while Daniel Ogunmodede scored two penalties.

Meanwhile, Enyimba  failed to score a single goal as they were held to a goalless draw by Al Ahli Benghazi.

Nigeria Professional Football League champions suffered a 4-3 overall loss.

The People’s Elephants controlled the game, but their terrible shooting let them down.

As Enyimba attacked, the guests sat back and put on a determined show.

After all was said and done, the home crowd was dissatisfied since Enyimba would have advanced to the next round with a 1-0 victory.

The People’s Elephant and Remo Stars will now turn their focus to getting ready for the 2023-2025  NPL season.
