CAF Champions League Yanga SC to face El Merrekih minus captain Bakari Mwamnyeto

Tanzanian Premier League champions Young Africans (Yanga SC) skipper Bakari Mwamnyeto will not be part of the squad to play El Merrikh on Saturday as he stays put to attend to family issues.

The two teams meet at Kigali Pele Stadium in Rwanda for the first leg match of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. On Thursday, Yanga through their verified Instagram page released a full list of players groomed for the Kigali assignment with Mwamnyeto’s name missing.

However, the club’s Media and Communication Manager Ally Kamwe conceded that Mwamnyeto has family issues to attend to with full blessings from the technical bench and management. Meanwhile, Yanga coach Miguel Gamondi has expressed his happiness after being voted as the best coach for August, his first individual award to win at the club.

“I am happy to receive this award, For me, it is a result of many people like those who work at Avic Town, people who take care of pitches, cooks, administrators, technical staff, and most importantly players because without them, we coaches are nothing,” he said, adding: “We have good players who work hard and it is a good thing to provide perfect results to our fans.”

In August, Gamondi guided Yanga to two wins in the Premier League against KMC and JKT Tanzania claiming massive 5-0 success in both fixtures without conceding a goal.
