Nigeria Premier League NPFL: Doma United Top League Table As Akwa United Beat Remo Stars

On a Sunday when the Nigeria Super Eagles struggled to get a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in their second game of the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers, actions took place in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The 2023/2024 NPFL entered Matchday 9 this weekend with all games rounded up on Sunday.

A total of 20 goals was scored in all the 10 games played across various venues as four games ended in draws as no away team was able to secure a victory.

On Saturday, Doma United stunned Plateau United 1-0 to claim a vital victory at home that placed them top of the league table.

Kwara United traveled to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium to share the spoils with Bendel Insurance in an intriguing clash that saw the hosts equalized on added time.

At the Eket Township Stadium, the action continued on Sunday when Akwa United overcame Remo Stars 3-2 in an exciting match.

In the fifteenth minute, Remo Stars’ first goal came from Sikiru Alimi.

Eight minutes later, Dare Ojo, a defensive midfielder, equalized for the home team.

In minute 26, Uche Collins gave Akwa United the lead for the first time in the match.

In the 62nd minute, Rilwan Sadiq increased the lead by double.

Aniekeme Okon cut the gap for the visitors with twelve minutes remaining.

Lobi Stars were defeated 1-0 by holders Enyimba in Uyo.

With two minutes remaining, Alalibo Somiari scored the game-winning goal.

The Lekan Salami Stadium at Adamasingba, Ibadan, saw Shooting Stars defeat Kano Pillars 1-0.

Four minutes before the hour mark, Kareem Ayinde scored the game-winning goal.

Katsina United held seven-time champion Rangers to a 0-0 draw.

Sporting Lagos, the NPFL’s newest team, came from behind to force a 1-1 draw with Heartland at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan.

Fifteen minutes remaining, Chinedu Ike handed the visitors the lead.

Jonathan Alukwu gave the home team a point deep into stoppage time.

This season, Heartland has yet to secure a victory in the NPFL.

Abia Warriors were defeated 2-1 by former champions Rivers United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Six minutes before halftime, Alex Oyowah scored a penalty kick to give Rivers United the lead.

Eight minutes from time, defender Ifeanyi Anaemena of the Abia Warriors gave up an own goal to double the lead of Rivers United.

After 86 minutes, Anaemena made up ground on his opponent.

After 13 minutes, Gombe United defeated Niger Niger Tornadoes 1-0 thanks to a strike from Umar Abba.
