AFCON AFCON 2023: Onuachu Replaces Injured Sadiq Umar

Paul Onuachu has been handed a late invitation to replace injured Sadiq Umar barely 24 hours to the 34th edition of the 2023 AFCON.

Sadiq pulled out of the Super Eagles Squad on Thursday night after he picked up injury during training and has now joined the list of Super Eagles stars that will be missing the AFCON 2023

Onuachu was part of the 25-man provisional squad that was released by the Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro but did not made it to the the final squad.

The lanky striker who plays for Trabzonspor is now expected to join the rest of the squad in Ivory Coast.

The former Southampton striker has had 12 goal involvements in 15 games, which comprises nine goals and three assists.

The Nigeria Football Federation will now be awaiting confirmation and clearance from his club, Trabzonspor for the striker to join up with the squad.

Meanwhile, Kelechi Iheanacho is expected to join the rest of the team in Ivory Coast on Friday ahead of the opening game against Equatorial Guinea but may not be involved in the game.

The Super Eagles now have only Victor Osimhen as the sole striker ahead of Sunday game against Equatorial Guinea.
