AFCON AFCON 2023: Big Blow For Nigeria As Injury Knocks Out Sadiq

Umar Sadiq, a forward for Nigeria, will not be participating in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations because of an injury.

During Monday’s friendly between the Super Eagles and Syli Stars of Guinea, Sadiq suffered a knee injury.

After receiving treatment, the 26-year-old is now anticipated to return to Real Sociedad in Spain. His absence will last approximately three weeks.

The setback kept the forward out of the team’s last two practices.

The three Super Eagles players to be eliminated from the competition are the former Almeria standout.

Alhassan Yusuf and Terem Moffi have taken the places of Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Boniface.

The only available striker for Nigeria’s opening match against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday is Victor Osimhen of Napoli.

The other strikers on the team, Terem Moffi and Kelechi Iheanacho, will only be joining the rest of the team this coming weekend.

There are indications that Paul Onuachu could be handed a late call up to replace him.
