Kenya Gor Mahia sip Tusker to move 10-points clear at FKF summit

Gor Mahia made clear their intentions of retaining the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title known after edging out Tusker FC 1-0 at Machakos Stadium on Saturday.

The victory courtesy of a well-struck Austin Odhiambo free-kick in the 21st minute saw K’Ogalo open a 10-point lead at the top of the 18-team table and remain the only unbeaten side in the top-flight.

The win further ensured K’Ogalo sealed a league double over the Brewers, having won the first meeting by the same margin in October.

Gor Mahia have now amassed 43 points from 19 matches, 10 more than second-placed Nairobi City Stars while the defeat saw Tusker remain third with 31 points, 12 fewer than the reigning champions.

K’Ogalo’s 12th victory of the campaign also ended Tusker’s five-match winning run in the top tier. Ahead of the fixture, the Brewers had bagged maximum points from their last five fixtures – 3-2 win against Bidco United, 2-0 against Nzoia Sugar, 1-0 against Kenya Police, 5-0 against KCB and 3-1 against Sofapaka.

On Friday, Sofapaka’s resurgence under coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno continued after they floored visiting Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 courtesy of a second-half strike from Darius Mugisha. The win saw Sofapaka move to 14th position on the log with 20 points while Homeboyz continued with their downward spill and are now sitting seventh with 28 points.

At Homabay Stadium, Shabana suffered their first defeat under coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo after going down 1-0 against Ulinzi Stars. The visiting Soldiers scored in the first minute of the game courtesy of Masita Masuta to carry the day.
