Premier League Tottenham were not threatening enough in Wolves defeat – Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou felt Tottenham let Wolves ‘get comfortable in the game’ as they suffered a 2-1 home loss in the Premier League on Saturday.

Spurs couldn’t get going in the first half and that was compounded when Joao Gomes headed home Pablo Sarabia’s corner to hand the visitors the lead just before half-time.

The stage looked set when Dejan Kulusevski weaved his way past Craig Dawson before slotting home from a tight angle to equalise a minute into the second half. Momentum was with Spurs as Deki tested Jose Sa only for Wolves to break from a corner and Gomes to slot home Pedro Neto’s cut back to restore their lead on 63 minutes.

He said: “I thought first half, we controlled the game well enough, but we just weren’t threatening enough, or dynamic enough and allowed Wolves to get comfortable in the game. They then scored their goal and second half, we scored early, dominated and had them pinned back but didn’t really take advantage of key moments and once they got the second, it made it difficult for us.

“It’s easy to dominate possession against a team like Wolves because they sit off you, but it’s what you do with it. We didn’t play with a lot of conviction, especially in the first half, we just need to be better in those areas when we get a bit of momentum in the game and try to punish the opposition. We’ve got to be better.

“We’ve just got to keep working hard. It’s not something that’s a quick fix for us. It’s where we are at the moment. We’re a good side that works hard every week, but we’re not anywhere near the level we want to be. It’s up to me to get us up to that level. We’ve two weeks now to prepare for the next game and we’ve got to make sure we use that time well.”
