Kenya Gor Mahia move 10-points clear at the top as Tusker jump second

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Gor Mahia opened a 10-point lead at the summit of the Premier League after registering a convincing 4-0 victory against Posta Rangers at Machakos Stadium on Saturday.

K’Ogalo looked the most dominant side in the fixture and took the lead with only two minutes played when striker Benson Omalla finished off a cross from Bryson Wangai for a 1-0 lead at the half-time break. After resumption, Gor extended their lead through Sylvester Owino, Austin Odhiambo made it 3-0 in the 80th minute before he scored the fourth, his second of the day in the 90th minute.

The win, their 14th of the campaign, saw K’Ogalo reach 50 points from 23 matches, and remain perched at the top of the log. Posta, who were sitting second heading into the fixture, dropped to third with 39 points, accumulated from 11 wins, six draws, and six defeats.

Tusker took advantage of Posta’s defeat to edge out Muhoroni Youth 2-1 and climb second, 10 points behind Gor Mahia. In the fixture at Muhoroni Stadium, whose kick-off was delayed for lack of enough security, Tusker took the lead through Erik Kapaito, who headed home a cross from Daniel Sakari.

Kapaito added the second, his eighth of the campaign before Adebowale Samuel pulled a consolation for the Sugar Millers with 10 minutes left on the clock. Tusker coach Robert Matano hailed his charges for producing a positive result despite the problems they underwent in Muhoroni.

Sofapaka’s quest to keep their status in the top-flight continued after they snatched a vital draw in their 1-1 result against Bidco United at Thika Stadium. After Batoto ba Mungu took the lead through Baron Ochieng in the 50th minute, Bidco drew level courtesy of Evan Mogaka in the 81st minute.

Sofapaka are now sitting 13th on the table with 26 points amassed from seven wins, five draws, and 11 defeats while Bidco remained ninth with 31 points. Elsewhere, Nairobi City Stars’ push for their first-ever title went up in smoke after battling to a 0-0 draw against Kariobangi Sharks at Police Sacco Stadium.
