Kenya FKF Cup: Kakamega Homeboyz sip Tusker to storm quarter-finals

Kakamega Homeboyz advanced to the quarterfinals of the MozzartBet Cup after clinching a 1-0 victory against Tusker at Jomo Kenyatta Mamboleo Stadium on Saturday.

The defending champions broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when Oliver Machaka found the back of the net with a decisive goal. In the earlier fixture at Mamboleo Stadium, Bungoma Stars saw their impressive cup run come to an end as they fell to Sofapaka in an encounter that ended in a penalty shootout.

Bungoma Stars took an early lead in the first half with goals from Makokha Meshack in the 5th minute and Wycliffe Wanyonyi in the 38th minute. However, Sofapaka rallied in the second half, with Mieno Humphrey scoring in the 64th minute and Odhiambo Paul in the 71st minute to level the scores.

Sofapaka eventually clinched the victory in the penalty shootout, prevailing 5-4. In other matches, Kenya Police secured a 3-1 win over Mombasa Stars, courtesy of a brace from Tito Okello and a 37th minute goal by Alvin Mang’eni, with Ngoto Alvin scoring the lone goal for Mombasa.

Meanwhile, KCB booked their spot in the quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory over fellow FKF Premier League side Bidco United.
