Uganda SC Villa and Vipers SC win to stay in title contention

SC Villa and Vipers SC took advantage of the leading pack’s slip up on Friday by winning their respective matches on Saturday.

First, the Jogoos overcame resilient Mbarara City 2-1 at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku with goals from Umar Lutalo and Hakim Kiwanuka. In between, Henry Kitegenyi had equalised for the Ankole Lions.

Lutalo scored direct from a free kick in the 20th minute before Kitegenyi levelled matters ten minutes later after the Villa goalie fumbled with a cross. Substitute Kiwanuka then won it with a well taken goal in the 69th minute as the Jogoos moved to 3rd place on 39 points, five behind leaders Kitara.

In the latter kick off, Moses Waiswa and Karim Watambala scored in each half as Vipers beat URA 2-0 at Lugogo. Waiswa opened the scores in the third minute with a well worked goal before Watambala made the points save with a free kick in the 89th minute.

Vipers moved to fourth place with 38 points and like Villa, they have two games in hand over the leading pack. Action in the league continues with Bright Stars hosting Gaddafi on Sunday at Kavumba.
