Uganda Busoga United move out of relegation with Wakiso Giants win

Busoga United moved out of the relegation zone after beating visiting Wakiso Giants 2-1 in a Ugandan Premier League game played in Njeru on Friday.

Emmanuel Ajo and Basham Mugwa scored Busoga’s goals in either half while Kenneth Kimera got Wakiso’s consolation in the opening 19 minutes of the match. Ajo opened the scoring on 16 minutes before Kimera leveled matters three minutes later. But Mugwa took the headlines with the winner 10 minutes from time for Busoga’s only fifth victory of the season.

The win for the Eastern side gives their survival chances a lift, springing them out of the relegation zone by a place to 13th on 21 points, just two off the drop with five games left.

On their part, Wakiso Giants – who are not safe yet either, are above Busoga by five points both sides having played 24 matches apiece. Another relegation scuffle at Kakyeka Stadium in Western Uganda saw visitors UPDF grind out a goalless draw against hosts Mbarara City.

The soldiers moved to 18 points after 24 matches but remain second from the bottom in the 16-team table. Mbarara are 11th on 29 points.
