UEFA Champions League UCL: Ancelotti Not Satisfied With Madrid Performance Against Bayern

The first leg of Real Madrid’s Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich ended in a 2-2 tie on Tuesday.

The manager of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, expressed his disappointment with his team’s mindset, labelling them “soft” for defending too deeply.

After Vinicius Jr.’s goal gave them the lead in the first half, Ancelotti questioned his team’s dedication.

Early in the second half, Bayern scored twice in four minutes to turn the tide of the match, but Vinicius equalised from the penalty spot.

The outcome is satisfactory, but we could have performed better on a playing level.

“Bayern displayed their finest form, whereas we did not.

We need to get better by next week,” a reflective Ancelotti stated to Movistar Plus+.

“In the first half we defended but with little intensity, in the second half when they took the lead we started to press a bit more, but not enough.

“The feeling was that we were comfortable, but we lacked intensity.

“We gave them too many chances to take control of the game.

“We didn’t want to play in a low block and we went on doing that. We were soft.”

Ancelotti justified his choice to replace Toni Kroos, Real Madrid’s greatest player and the man who set up Vinicius’ first goal with a wonderful ball.

The Italian stated he tried to shake things up with his team by making four replacements, and he was relieved that they managed to score the equaliser, which he thinks “left the tie open” for the second leg in Madrid the following week.

Jude Bellingham had a cramp, Toni Kroos played a spectacular game but the plan was to try to recover the control of the game by putting fresh legs in,” Ancelotti told a press conference.

“As always, at this point in the season we have a great opportunity to play in another final.

“It’s an even tie against a great team.

“It will be another 90 minutes of suffering but in an atmosphere that we know quite well.

“The fans are going to help us.”
