Gossip Australian Open: Serena Williams edges Ashleigh Barty

ashleigh-barty_serena-williams-300x196Serena Williams has not messed around at the Rod Laver Arena for her debut in the women’s singles of the Australian Open. The World No. 1 has overwhelmed local Ashleigh Barty in straight sets 6/2, 6/1.

The American who began her season with her 58th trophy on the WTA Tour in Brisbane won the first set in 28 minutes after two breaks.

The Australian invited to the tournament, must wait for the eighth game across the two sets to win her third play of the game. After 57 minutes of exchanges and fifth break of the match Serena qualifies for second round.

Vying for a sixth coronation on Melbourne, Serena Williams will face Serbian Vesna Dolonc 104th player in the world, for a place in the third round.
