AFCON CAMEROON 2021 Afcon 2013: Agassa, Man of the 2nd match Algeria 0-2 Togo

Algeria clearly on top here, but have not yet gotten the goal that their play has deserved. They were hit with a stomach punch by Tunisia in the last minute of their previous match, and I’m sure they do not want a repeat of that scenario. They need to finish one of these chances.

Adebayor is beginning to drop deeper to receive the ball, and pulls off on nice sequence where a through ball forces Belkarem to concede a corner. The hit and hope towards the Togo skipper was not working, good to see him take some initiative and try another approach.

TOGO BREAKS THE DEADLOCK! And who else but Adebayor! Salifou with a lovely header through that frees the skipper, who makes no mistake with a low first time finish. 1-0!!

Well here we go again for the North Africans. They have been punished for not taking advantage of a sloppy Togolese defence, and now have to chase the game.

Agassa with another display of safe hands by reaching highest to pluck a cross from Guedioura out of the air. The Togo keeper has come under a lot of aerial pressure, but has really been a figure of calm and authority. What a boost of confidence for his defence.

A rare Togo foray forward ends as quickly as it begins, as Amewou’s attempted through pass between two lines of players is intercepted easily before it can meet Adebayor.

Oh woe is Wome! The substitute picks up the ball after Adebayor cleared the corner, and goes on a barnstorming run straight through to the opposite box! But with options either side of him, he instead gets a rush of blood to the head and goes for the shot, which goes into orbit. What a disappointing end to a great run.

Togo is now under Algeria pressure in which they can score at anytime. But the ‘Man’ of the match is Togo goalkeeper; he really did a great job. Congratulations to him.
