Africa Athletics : Jamaican Fraser-Pryce raises funds for Sagicor Sigma Run

Jamaican Olympic Sprint Champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce today announced her recent effort to raise funds for local child care facilities: Bustamante Hospital for Children, Jamaica National Children’s Home and Best Care Lodge.

The Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run is an annual initiative which donates 100 per cent of proceeds earned to select charities. This year, over 20,000 persons have registered for the event which is notably the largest 5k road race in the Caribbean.

“The Sagicor Sigma Corporate Sigma Run for me means healthy; it means looking out for our children and setting the right example. It supports my passion… I run for a living and I enjoy it. I think our children and adults should enjoy it as well. Thank you so much Sagicor for doing what you are doing and I hope you continue to grow from strength to strength,” says Fraser-Pryce.

Since 1999, the over J100 million dollars raised by the 5K road race has purchased much needed equipment for charities such as Sophie’s Place & Mustard Seed Communities; The University Hospital Labour Ward; Jamaica AIDS Support for Life; The Renal Units of the Cornwall Regional, University Hospital and Kingston Public Hospitals; Victoria Jubilee Hospital Neo Natal Care Unit among others.
