Africa Soccer Malawi club suspends 4 players for breaking Covid-19 guidelines

Malawi top-flight league side, Ntopwa FC, has suspended four players for allegedly breaking Covid-19 prevention guidelines.

A statement from the Blantyre-based TNM Super League side says captain Happy Kasamba, his deputy Mphatso Magaleta, Jawado Kanjuzi and Mark Lameck broke the guidelines over the weekend.

“Ntopwa FC is hereby informing you that we have suspended captain Happy Kasamba, his vice Mphatso Magaleta, Jawado Kanjuzi and Mark Lameck for a period of two months with immediate effect for breaking the club’s code of conduct in conformity with Covid-19 sports guidelines.

“The three defenders and a midfielder were during the weekend of 30th October and 1st November 2020 seen participating in games not sanctioned by the club in Bangwe Township,” a statement from the club says.

On October 16 2020, Ntopwa tested its players and coaching staff and all of them tested negative for Covid-19 in Blantyre.
