African players abroad Morocco International Youssef En-Nesyri Made History In Spanish La Liga

Morocco international Youssef En-Nesyri remains grounded after becoming the highest-scoring Moroccan player in the history of the Spanish La Liga. The 23-year-old marksman’s solitary goal inspired Sevilla to a 1-0 win over Levante in a league game that was played on Wednesday.

The goal took En-Nesyri’s tally to 17 goals which broke Youssef El-Arabi’s previous record of 16 goals scored during the 2015/16 season at Granada.

En-Nesyri says he is only focused on scoring goals for Sevilla, who are now placed third on the La Liga standings.

There are many goals, this year I will not count them. Because the most important thing is to give the team victory.” En-Nesyri told the club website.

Levante is a team that defends well. But we had concentrated until the end, scoring that first goal that gave us the three points.”

The Fez-born player is also in the race for this season’s La Liga top goalscorer award, Pichichi, having netted 17 goals from 32 matches so far.

En-Nesyri is the fourth top scorer in the league behind Atletico Madrid star Luis Suarez and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema (both 19 goals), Villarreal of Gerard Moreno (20 goals) and FC Barcelona captain Lionel Messi (23 goals).

He will be looking to add to his tally when Sevilla play host to Granada at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday.
