Malawi’s biggest derby for Blantyre has been rescheduled from this weekend to a later date.
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) General Secretary, Williams Banda, said the Blantyre derby has been rescheduled because Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers have contributed over four players each to the national team.
The Blantyre giants have contributed the bulk of players to the squad of the Flames who are preparing for the forthcoming Cosafa Cup.
“The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) wishes to inform the general public and all football stakeholders that the Nyasa Big Bullets versus Be Forward Wanderers match has been rescheduled to a later date in line with SULOM rules and regulations that’s stipulates that any team contributing more than three players to the National team shall be exempted from playing their matches.
“Further all games scheduled for Karonga Stadium have been rescheduled as well in order to allow SULOM resolve the referees concerns and for SULOM to finalise litigation. We further implore clubs to ensure that all covid-19 containment regulations are strictly adhered to,” Banda said.
Of late, home games involving Karonga United have been marred by violence.
In the latest incident, a game between Karonga and Silver Strikers ended prematurely due to crowd trouble after the Bankers were awarded a penalty.
Recently, Northern Region Referees Association penned Sulom that they would no longer assign its personnel to handle matches at Karonga Stadium due to security concerns.
Silver Strikers are leading the title chase in the TNM Super League with goal-aggregate putting them ahead of defending champions Bullets.
