Women's AFCON Namibia’s Gladiators jet in Zambia for a dance with Copper Queens

Namibia’s Brave Gladiators jetted in Zambia on Monday ahead of their Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifying match against the Copper Queens on Wednesday.

Namibia coach Woody Jacobs and his 19 players arrived in Lusaka at 1:30pm in a buoyant mood ahead of the first-leg scheduled for Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

Before the Gladiators departure for Zambia, Namibia Football Association posted on its Facebook page a message saying: “Copper Queens, the Brave Gladiators are coming for you.

Namibia’s squad comprise star players such as Turkey-based striker Zenatha Coleman who arrived first in Zambia on Monday morning.

Germany-based Veweziwe Katipoti also linked up with the team while in South Africa.

Namibia held camp training at Wits University’s Sturrock Stadium in Johannesburg ahead of the trip to Zambia.

The Gladiators should be wary of Zambia who demolished South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 3-0 in a friendly on Saturday at Nkoloma Stadium.

After meeting Zambia, the Copper Queens will travel to South Africa for the second leg match against the Gladiators on February 22.

The overall winner over the two legs will qualify for the AWCON finals that will run from July 2 to 23 in Morocco.

The women’s AFCON will also serve as the African qualifiers for the Women’s World Cup which Australia and New Zealand will co-host next year.
