Nigeria Ex-Super Eagles Players To Honour Former Lagos State Governor For His Birthday Anniversary

Former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will turn 70 on March 29. And for the birthday anniversary celebration of the APC presidential aspirant, former Super Eagles players will joint to the event with a novelty match.

Addressing reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, Director-General, Tinubu Support Group, Umar Ibrahim, said the former Super Eagles players for the match include Kanu Nwankwo, Jay Jay Okocha, Peter Rufai, Tijani Babangida, Mutiu Adepoju, Garba Lawal, Julius Aghahowa, Victor Ikpeba, Uche Okechukwu, Ifeanyi Udeze, Taribo West, Victor Agali, Ike Shorunmu, Victor Ezeji, Obafemi Abiodun and Dosu Joseph. 

He said to commemorate Tinubu’s birthday, the TSG, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, organised the football match and prayers simultaneously across the six geo-political zones of the country. 

There will also be a Novelty football Match between Ex-Super Eagles International Players and the Asiwaju Team at Onikan Stadium Lagos on 20th March 2022.

“Awards will be presented to His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu by Ex-Super Eagles and Kanu Heart Foundation.”

Speaking, ex Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, said it would be a pleasure to celebrate someone that has been an icon of grassroots football development in Lagos State.

He said he wants to use the medium to say thank you for what Lagos has done for him.

According to Rufai, “I came to Lagos at 17 with a Christmas shoe. I came for a trial at Stationery Stores and I was picked. I was given a house and a car.

Dodo Manyana as Rufai is fondly called joked that he would use his performance in the novelty match to cause confusion for Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguaveon, stressing that after his performance, the coach would think of inviting him to the national team again.
