The Nigerian Flying Eagles started their WAFU Zone B qualifying campaign for 2022 with a 2-0 victory over the Black Satellites of Ghana at Niamey, Niger Republic on Sunday.
Aminu Muhammad and Ahmed Abdullahi scored in each half of the Flying Eagles’ Group B match, which was held inside the General Seyni Kountche Stadium.
Five minutes into the game, Muhammad gave the Flying the lead, which Abdullahi doubled with 12 minutes remaining.

The Flying Eagles are seeking vengeance after losing 1-0 to Ghana in the group stage of the WAFU Zone B qualifications in Benin Republic in 2020, which was a qualifying tournament for the 2021 U-20 AFCON.
In Benin Republic, the Ghanaians went on to win the 2020 WAFU Zone B qualifiers.
On Wednesday, Ladan Bosso’s team will play Burkina Faso in their second Group B match.
In Group A, the hosts Niger Republic, Benin Republic, Togo, and Cote d’Ivoire compete.
Each group will have two teams advance to the semi-finals, with the two winners qualifying to represent WAFU Zone B at the 2023 U-20 AFCON in Egypt.
The FIFA U-20 World Cup qualifiers for 2023 will be held in Indonesia.
The tournament’s four semi-finalists will all qualify to represent Africa in Indonesia.
The Flying Eagles have won the CAF U-20 AFCON seven times, making them the most successful team in the competition.
They last won the continental championship in 2015, when they defeated Senegal in the final 1-0.
They were champions on six further occasions, in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, and 2005.
Their most recent outing at the U-20 AFCON was in 2019, when they came fourth in Niger Republic’s edition.
The Flying Eagles have come second in the FIFA U-20 World Cup on two occasions, in 1989 and 2005.
