Pele’s cancer has progressed, a statement from the Sao Paulo hospital where the 82-year-old Brazil legend is being treated has confirmed.

The three-time World Cup winner has been in hospital for three weeks.

His daughter wrote on Instagram that he would spend Christmas in the facility.

A statement issued by the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein said Pele “requires greater care related to renal and cardiac dysfunctions” because of the “cancer progression”.

A statement from the Sao Paulo hospital where Pele, 82, is receiving treatment acknowledged that the cancer has advanced.

The three-time World Cup champion has spent three weeks in the hospital.

According to a statement from the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, the “progression of the malignancy” means that Pele “needs additional treatment relating to renal and cardiac dysfunctions.”

In September 2021, a colon tumor was removed, and Pele has since undergone routine therapy.

Pele “had an excellent reaction to treatment for respiratory infection care,” according to a hospital statement released shortly after he was admitted, and he was also undergoing a “reassessment of chemotherapy treatment.”
