Liverpool Klopp Hails Alexander-Arnold As Liverpool Ends 2022 In Victory

Trent Alexander-Arnold received special appreciation from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for his outstanding defensive performance against Harvey Barnes during Friday’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City.

The Reds, who are attempting to salvage their season following a slow start, won their fourth consecutive league game to close the gap on fourth-place Tottenham to just two points.

After Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall sprinted through the Reds defense to score the game’s first goal in the fourth minute, Wout Faes’ two own goals late in the first half gave Liverpool the victory.

As the Reds held off the Foxes and stopped Barnes from posing a threat down Leicester’s left side, Alexander-Arnold, who has had a tumultuous season, received plaudits from Klopp.

Really good, and not the first time,” Klopp told reporters.

“It was really good, very helpful and very important in these moments. Very, very helpful.

“I think everybody knows how good Harvey Barnes is in these moments and Trent did exceptionally well.

“We had a few good performances, really good performances but the majority were not on top of their game, let me say it like this, and that’s why this can happen.

“Now we have just two days [before facing Brentford on Monday] and we don’t know exactly who can go again and stuff like this.”

With fullback Andy Robertson being replaced just past the hour due to an injury worry and Harvey Elliott leaving the game late as well, Klopp may be facing two problems right away.

The Scottish defender had genuinely wounded himself during the warm-up, but the German coach nonetheless started him.

“Funnily enough, Harvey, before the game, injured Robbo a little bit,” Klopp said.

“In our warm-up game, he hit him with a knee at the hip, so it was a dead leg.

“He could play but then at one point the muscle closed and he couldn’t play on.

“Harvey got a knock, which was quite painful, but when you see the situation because it is clear that’s painful, but that’s it, I think.”
