Rwanda Ferwafa picks Habyarimana as the new boss to replace Nizeyimana

The Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) has appointed Marcel Matiku Habyarimana as the new President on an interim basis.

During an extraordinary general assembly meeting held in Kigali on Monday, members of the football governing body settled for Habyarimana to take charge of the association’s activities as a replacement for Olivier Mugabo Nizeyimana, who quit the role on April 19.

Habyarimana will take charge until June 24 when Ferwafa will hold elections to pick a new boss. Nizeyimana had quit the role citing personal reasons.

In his letter, while stepping down, Nizeyimana, who was elected unopposed on June 28, 2021, wrote: “I find that combining it [the Federation’s work] with other responsibilities would have a negative impact.

“I am so thankful for your efforts in all that has been achieved as well as your kind support in the development of football in Rwanda.”

During the meeting on Monday, the assembly further named Gorilla FC chairman Hadji Yussuf Mudaheranwa and Inyemera WFC president Ancille Mukankaka to assist Habyarimana throughout the 39-day interim term.
