Africa Soccer AFCON 2023 : Togo defeat Eswatini to boost its qualification chances

Eswatini vs Togo

Togo can still dream of qualifying for AFCON 2023 following their 2-0 victory over Eswatini on Sunday at Mbombela Stadium in South Africa.

It is a success that is good for the morale of the Sparrowhawks. Paulo Duarte’s men won their very first meeting in these African Cup of Nations qualifiers after two draws and two defeats.

And it was on an achievement by Kévin Denkey, the Cercle Brugge striker in the 14th minute on a smooth through pass from Ihlas Bebou, who launched the Sparrowhawks perfectly.

Togo had several other chances to score two or even three goals in this first part, but the Eperviers lacked realism.

After several failures in the second part as well, Togo will finally make the break in added time thanks to a header scored by Fessou Placca on a lovely cross of Bebou who bagged two assists in the game (90 + 2).

Togo has fulfilled its contract and now has 5 points. But to hope for a qualification, Cape Verde must lose against Burkina Faso tonight.
