Egypt Tau has achieved more at Al Ahly than Brighton – Mosimane

South African coach Pitso Mosimane believes Al Ahly striker Percy Tau made the right decision to sign for the Egyptian giants from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion.

The South African player signed a permanent deal for the Egyptian giants on August 26, 2021, and he played in the 2021 Caf Super Cup on December 22, in which he assisted Al Ahly’s goal in the eventual penalty shootout victory. Tau has managed to lead the Red Devils to two Egypt Super Cups, the 2022 Egypt Cup, and most importantly the 2023 Caf Champions League.

“He’s mentally resilient, so no, he doesn’t need me to survive. He survived in Belgium and England without me,” Mosimane said as per SowetanLive, adding: “He would be fit for two games, and then be out. He had that problem for over a year, but once he got fit, there was no doubt he would succeed at Ahly. I brought him there because I knew he was strong mentally.

“He was frustrated at Brighton because he was not playing but I told him he could play Champions League and [Fifa] Club World Cup. He’s achieved that now, something he would never have achieved at Brighton. We also made sure he doesn’t downgrade his financial package. Ahly gave him a proper contract.”

Mosimane continued: “They [Al Ahly] know how to win this competition, they are consistent. Even when I was there we always finished second in the group phase, but in the knockouts, that’s where the experience comes in.”

Tau could win another title with Al Ahly as they are chasing for the league title.
