FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed the club is till paying Lionel Messi his salary despite the fact that the 36-year old left the club in August 2021.
It’s nearly two years since Messi and Barcelona parted ways due to the club’s financial decline.
The Spanish giants could not register his contract in 2021 and had to let him join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

However, two years later Barcelona are still filling the weight of Lionel Messi’s salary while the 2022 World Cup winner joined MLS side Inter Miami recently.
“We are still paying Leo Messi until 2025”, Laporta told La Vanguardia
“It was an agreement he made with the previous board to defer his salary. As of now, it counts towards our salary bill, but it depends.
“With La Liga’s new rules, these indemnities should not count towards our inancial Fair-play limit.”
