American forward Christian Pulisic has joined AC Milan from Chelsea on a four-year deal with an additional year’s option, the Serie A club announced on Thursday.

Financial information was not provided, although British media stated that Chelsea was paid €20 million plus add-ons for the 24-year-old by the Italian club.

145 appearances, 26 goals, and 21 assists in four seasons at Chelsea all belong to Pulisic.

In 2021, he contributed to the West London club’s victories in the Club World Cup, Uefa Super Cup, and Champions League.

After Chelsea finished 12th in the Premier League last season, their lowest placing in over three decades, Pulisic joins a lengthy list of stars who have left the club.

Milan finished fourth in Serie A last season to earn a Champions League spot.

In his first press conference, Pulisic said: “The last few seasons with Chelsea were difficult,

“For whatever reason, I wasn’t getting the opportunities I wanted at my previous club, but I now have a great opportunity to reach the highest level that I can...”

After Zlatan Ibrahimovic retires, Pulisic will don the number 11 jersey, and he acknowledged the weight of duty that comes with it.

“I’m not trying to fill his shoes, he’s a legend, but it was a fresh beginning and a number that I liked,” Pulisic said.

There are so many big names you can go through, but I am a bit younger, so watched the likes of Kaka and Ibrahimovic, plus the players who are here now.”

In this transfer window, he joins midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as the second player to depart Chelsea for Milan.

After signing backup goalkeeper Marco Sportiello from Atalanta, young attacker Luka Romero from Lazio, and midfielder Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic is Milan manager Stefano Pioli’s fourth close-season acquisition.
