Olympic Games Olympic Qualifiers: Ghana smash Guinea to book Benin in second round

Ghana put up a strong display to hammer Guinea 4-0 and qualify for the next round of the 2024 Olympic qualifiers at Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.

In the process, the Black Queens advanced on a 7-0 aggregate scoreline having won the first leg meeting 3-0 away in Conakry. The Black Queens started the game on a high note and they should have taken the lead when Doris Boaduwaa hit the crossbar right after kick-off when he raced to meet a pass from Evelyn Badu.

Badu’s heroics on the day was rewarded in the 36th minute after her solo run found the back of the net for the opener. Badu fired a powerful shot strike into the far left corner to beat Mawa Traorè to give Ghana a perfect start to the game.

The Black Queens went into the break with a slim lead 1-0 lead but on resumption, Priscilla Adubea increased the tally in the 52nd minute with a calm finish. Badu grabbed her second of the afternoon but third for Ghana after reacting quickly to stab home from a rebound in the 65th minute.

Ghana were not done yet as substitute Fridaus Yakubu rounded off the emphatic victory in the 85th minute after latching onto a delicious pass from Adubea from the right wing, to round off the Guinea’s keeper before placing the ball into an empty net.

Ghana will now face Benin in the second round in October and should they beat Benin, they will face Zambia or one of Burkina Faso/Mali in the third Round of the qualifiers.
