Transfer window Saudi Arabia Influx Continues As Mahrez Join Al Ahli

Riyad Mahrez, a forward for Manchester City from Algeria, has officially signed for Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia, according to early Friday reports from Saudi state-run Al Ekhbariya TV.

Al Ekhbariya announced on Twitter that Mahrez had joined Al-Ahli as their newest acquisition, but he gave no other information.

The Jeddah-based group hasn’t made an official announcement yet.

Following his transfer from Leicester City in 2018, Mahrez made 236 appearances for City in all competitions, registered 78 goals and 59 assists, and the team won 11 trophies, including five league crowns.

Last season, the 32-year-old’s position for Pep Guardiola’s team was diminished.

He scored 15 goals in 47 games, but was absent from the FA Cup and Champions League finals as City achieved an unprecedented treble.

He extended his contract last year till 2025.

Mahrez is the newest high-profile addition to the Saudi Pro League, which has drawn players from Europe since Cristiano Ronaldo went to Al Nassr in January of last year.

Al-Ahli, who won promotion to the Pro League last season after spending one season in the second tier, have also signed Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy on a three-year contract as well as Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino on a free transfer.

The league champions Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr, and Al-Hilal are a part of the sports clubs investment and privatisation project that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) unveiled last month.
