FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP FIFAWWC: Japan losing sleep because of facing Zambia – Mwape

Zambia coach Bruce Mwape believes Japan are worried about coming face to face with Zambia in their opening match at the Fifa Women’s World Cup on Saturday.

The Copper Queens will kick off their campaign against Japan at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton at 19h00 local time (09h00CAT), and ahead of the Group C clash, the 63-year-old Mwape believes they have prepared well adding only Japan are losing sleep of coming up against them.

“We are ready for Japan and I’m sure even them they are not sleeping, especially after winning Germany,” Mwape told the media, adding: “They will make sure that they give us a tough time and even us we want to make sure that we carry the day.”

He added: “We have done our homework. We have worked on the mistakes, especially the ones we identified during the game against Germany, and going forward I’m sure there will be an improvement, and as far as I’m concerned the team is ready for the World Cup.”

Mwape further explained how the Queens were well motivated heading into the fixture by saying: “Motivation is actually coming from different angles. The other night we had a meeting with the Head of State, the Republican President and he addressed the whole team. That was good enough for the players to get motivated because coming from the head of state it is something big and the girls will make sure that they do well so that they don’t disappoint the President.”

After playing against Japan on Saturday, the Copper Queens will come up against Spain on July 26 before wrapping up their Group C matches against Costa Rica five days later.
