The Banyana Banyana of South Africa suffer an opening loss against Sweden in their first FIFA Women’s World Cup early on Sunday.

Desiree Ellis’ girls were the one to write their name on the scoresheet after the first half ended in a goalless draw.Hildah Magaia gave Banyana Banyana advantage with the opener in the 48th minute.

However, unlucky Lebohang Ramalepe deflected a Fridolina Rolfo strike and allowed the opposition side to equalize. The game was expected to end in a stalemate as both sides were at 1-1 until the 88th minute. Unfortunately, South Africa conceded a minute later (89th) as Amanda Ilestedt scored a late winner for Sweden.

This a very frustrating loss for Banyana who have to bounce back on Friday, July 28 against Argentina.
