Africa Soccer Al Ahly’s Emam Ashour ruled out of Mamelodi Sundowns clash

Al Ahly have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their encounter with Mamelodi Sundowns in the African Football League.

The Red Devils qualified for the African Football League semi-finals after overcoming Tanzania’s Simba on away goals after a 3-3 draw on aggregate. Summer-signing Emam Ashour was on the bench for Al Ahly in the return leg but did not get any minutes after head coach Marcel Koller revealed the midfielder was not fully fit.

Just days before their game against Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly confirmed that the 25-year-old will miss the first leg due to injury. “The club’s director of football, Khaled Bebo, said that Emam Ashour’s MRI revealed an inflammation in his ankle and therefore decided the player would not travel to South Africa,” Al Ahly said in a statement.

Al Ahly will travel to face Sundowns in the first leg on Sunday before facing them again in Cairo three days later.
