Premier League Brighton Defeat Villa To End Six Games Winless Run

With a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at home on Sunday, Brighton & Hove Albion ended a six-match losing streak in the Premier League.

Joao Pedro’s scruffy 87th-minute goal sealed the victory.

Joao Pedro scored his 20th goal of the season in all competitions and gave the home team a much-needed boost amid a sharp decline in domestic form when Brighton’s Simon Adingra won the crucial penalty with seconds remaining.

As a result, Brighton is now in 11th position with 47 points, while Villa is in fourth place with 67 points.

Both teams are still vying for a berth in the Champions League for the following season, with fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur.

Throughout the match, Adingra was Brighton’s most active player, testing the keeper and creating numerous opportunities; however, Villa’s substitute goalkeeper, Robin Olsen, made a number of saves to keep his team in the contest.

Olsen’s best save came late in the first half, stopping Pascal Gross after Adingra had sent him through.

The German midfielder also had a goal disallowed by VAR in the 68th minute due to a slight offside.

Adingra persisted though, and when the referee pointed to the spot, the Ivorian winger—who had been tormenting Villa’s Ezri Konsa—finally overcame the full back after he was tripped.

Joao Pedro scored from a penalty kick, but Olsen was unable to stop the celebrations that started at American Express Stadium when the Brazilian headed home the rebound.
