Uganda BUL FC make it six wins out of six as Vipers SC triumph in UPL

Alex Kitata scored the only goal of the match as StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) title contenders, BUL, made it six out of six wins in the 1-0 victory over URA at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Tuesday.

The Jinja-based side moved to 18 points, three ahead of high-flying and newly promoted Kitara, who have played a game fewer. The former Villa forward, Kitata, scored the match-winner and his fourth goal of the season six minutes into the second half to continue BUL’s perfect start and end URA’s unbeaten streak. URA’s first defeat in six games leaves them sixth on nine points.

But the match for the highlights had to be served under the floodlights at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende. Vipers striker Yunus Sentamu made sure to produce the ultimate highlight with a stunning long-range goal in the comprehensive 3-0 victory over Wakiso Giants.

Karim Watambala’s two goals in either half earned the midfielder the Pilsner Man of the Match accolade, but it was his assist in between that laid the stage for Sentamu to open his season account in style. A Wakiso player lost possession near the halfway line, and Watambala slid through the loose ball to Sentamu.

With his back to goal, Sentamu received it with his left and in just one turn, just after the centre arc, drilled a long ball with his right over Bashir Ssekagya, who was way off his line to make it 2-0 on 67 minutes.

The whole stadium was on its feet as the ball rolled off the inside of the top net and back onto the pitch. It was the most emphatic way for Sentamu, who later set up Watambala for the midfielder’s second and Vipers third, to open his season account.

Vipers fourth win in six matches sees the Venoms move one place up to third on 14 points, four behind leaders BUL – both sides having played the same number of games. Wakiso are 11th on four points.
