Uganda SC Villa defeat Express to take Kampala derby bragging rights

SC Villa took Kampala derby bragging rights after a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over hosts Express at Mutesa II Stadium Stadium, Wankulukuku on Friday.

Patrick Kakande and Umar Lutalo scored Villa’s goals to render Alpha Ssali’s opener a consolation. Both teams remain unchanged on the Ugandan Premier League table standings. Villa are sixth on 16 points from 10 matches, while Express are just below the Jogoos on 13 points, both having played the same number of games.

Ssali, son to dancehall star Bebe Cool – who was watching from the stands – put the Red Eagles ahead when his goal-bound effort was deflected in after a beautiful through pass from Isaac Wagoina on 14 minutes.

But Villa levelled matters through Pilsner Man of Match, Kakande, on 35 minutes following a beautiful move of intricate passing. Kakande picked the ball from the halfway line and dragged three Express players with him towards the left before his cut back to Ivan Bogere eliminated the Red Eagles markers.

Ronald Ssekiganda and Umar Lutalo picked up from there and back to Bogere, who just laid it on for Kakande to complete a brilliant move with a brilliant goal. The Jogoos then ensured of all three points when Lutalo scored from a penalty spot on 63 minutes. Meanwhile, a Bright Anukani brace helped defending champions, Vipers SC, overcome battling Kitara 2-1 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Jude Ssemugabi scored the visitors’ consolation under the floodlights as the league newcomers lost just their third match in 10. Second-placed Vipers’ seventh victory in 10 games moves them within just two points of leaders BUL, who are on 25 – both teams having played the same number of matches.
Kitara remains fourth on the log with 19 points from 10 matches.
