AFCON AFCON 2023: EFA rules out Salah for two Egypt matches

The Egyptian Football Association has confirmed that Mohamed Salah will miss two games in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.

The Egyptian captain was forced off injured on the brink of half-time in the Pharaohs’ 2-2 draw against Ghana on Thursday.

It’s suspected to be a hamstring injury after Salah was seen grabbing the back of his left leg, before handing over the captain’s armband to Ahmed Hegazi and then limping outside of the pitch.

The news were confirmed by the EFA, who went on to reveal that the Liverpool superstar will miss just two games, the final group game against Cape Verde, and the round of 16 tie in case of the Pharaohs make it through.

“The scans that Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egyptian national team, underwent confirmed his injury to the hamstring,” a statement from the EFA read.

“Salah will be absent from the next two matches in the Africa Cup of Nations against Cape Verde, and then in the Round of 16 in the event of qualification.”
