Dstv Premiership DStv Premiership: Mahlonoko Late Goal Denies Amazulu Victory

Tuesday night at King Zwelithini Stadium, AmaZulu and Moroka Swallows drew 1-1 in their most recent DStv Premiership match.

Usuthu is still in 10th place on the log as a result of the outcome, while Swallows are in 13th.

The KZN team played good defence up until the very end, when they gave up a last-minute equaliser due to a lack of focus.

Ben Motshwari led the midfield and played a key role in the first half.

Gabadinho Mhango of the Swallows nearly scored at the half, but Olwethu Mzimela stopped him.

Mhango had two of the team’s finest opportunities in the first half, but the forward was unable to complete his shots with precision.

After a lacklustre first forty-five minutes, the two teams went into halftime tied at zero goals.

Taariq Fielies attempted to put AmaZulu ahead early in the second half, but his effort was insufficient.

But at the 64-minute mark, Junior Dion got a beautiful cross from Wayde Jooste and failed to capitalise, giving Usuthu the appearance of being the more likely team to score.

Riaan Hanamub finally found the back of the net in the 72nd minute of play with a spectacular striker’s goal, his first of the season.

But instead of giving up, the Dube Birds persisted to the very end and were eventually rewarded.

Augustine Mahlonoko, who had come off the bench for the Swallows late in the half, struck the back of the goal during stoppage time, breaking the hearts of AmaZulu supporters.

Both sides shared the spoils after the game, which concluded in a 1-1 draw.
