Dstv Premiership DStv Premiership: Spurs Share Spoils With Pirates

Orlando Pirates were forced to share the spoils with Cape Town Spurs after a 1-1 draw at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night in the DStv Premiership.

To set the tone for this weekend’s Soweto Derby, the Bucs wanted to win all three points.

Spurs, meanwhile, will be content with earning a point against their fifth-place opponents as they continue their battle to avoid relegation.

The Orlando Pirates had more possession and opportunities early in the game, which was rugged and fast-paced.

Relebohile Mofokeng gave the Sea Robbers the early lead in the 12th minute with a curling strike that found the bottom corner of the net.

Four minutes later, Chumani Butsaka of the Cape Town Spurs would attempt a long-range goal but miss the upright.

Although the first half was hotly contested, Pirates had the majority of possession and shots on goal. With the advantage, the home team entered the half.

Similar to the first half, the Urban Warriors tried their hardest to repel their opponents in the second half.

The Soweto team kept trying, but they were unable to make the breakthrough. In the closing minutes of the game, the away team came to life and began to create a decent number of opportunities for themselves.

Gabriel Kamagi equalised for Spurs in the 76th minute with a well-executed effort, seizing his chance to put the ball in the net.

Despite their best efforts to regain the lead, the Buccaneers were only able to settle for a point as the final siren blew.

It was yet another triumphant outcome for the Cape Town Spurs, who are battling relegation.
