Uganda Lwanga strike enough for SC Villa to beat Express FC in derby

Charles Lwanga’s first half goal earned SC Villa three points and bragging rights as the Jogoos beat Express 1-0 to claim the Kampala derby at Wankulukuku on Saturday.

This, plus wins for NEC over Gaddafi and UPDF against Busoga were refreshing a day after three matches failed to produce a victor. In beating Express at the shared Wankulukuku, Villa completed a double over their city rivals, the reverse first round fixture having ended 2-1 in the Jogoos favour.

Villa’s ninth win in 18 matches moves them three places up to fourth on 33 points, seven off the top, while Express lie eighth on 29. Across on Jinja, Cromwell Rwothomio’s 58th minute goal proved decisive as NEC beat home side Gaddafi 1-0 to move four places up to third on 34 points. Gaddafi are just above relegation on 18 points.

The soldiers remain second from bottom on 13 points despite their win, while Busoga are just above them on 16.
