La Liga Santander Real Madrid sweep Celta Vigo aside to keep seven-point gap

Real Madrid got the better of Celta at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in a match they dominated from start to finish on Sunday.

The league leaders kept their seven-point lead over second-placed Girona with 10 games to play in La Liga. The first two goals arrived from set-pieces, with Modric and Rudiger both playing their part, but it was Vini Jr. and a Guaita own goal that did the damage.

Late in the game, Carlos Domínguez, with another own goal, and debutant Arda Guler, made it 4-0. A dominant start from Real, gave a clear indications of why they’re top of La Liga, and after only three minutes they were already causing problems for the visitors, with a shot from Camavinga from the edge of the area that Guaita saved.

Four minutes later, the same players were in the spotlight. Modric swung in a corner and the Frenchman’s header was again deflected wide by the Celta keeper. Ancelotti’s side looked to continue to pose a threat to their opponents and the well-deserved breakthrough came from another set-piece.

Modric delivered a corner in the 21st minute and Rudiger’s header was creditably saved by Guaita, who again did well to keep out Vini Jr’s shot, but was unable to keep out the Brazilian forward with his second attempt. The Madrid 7’s goal-scoring exploits have seen him score in all three of Real Madrid’s last three games (four goals).
