Nigerian Players abroad Osimhen Returns To Training With Napoli After Injury

After recovering from a muscular ailment, Nigerian attacker Victor Osimhen returned to exercise with his Napoli colleagues on Friday.

The defending Serie A winners practiced at the SSCN Konami Training Centre in Naples, Italy, where Osimhen worked out with Matteo Politano, who is also recovering from an injury, and other Napoli colleagues who were unable to make the international window.

Prior to Nigeria’s June 2026 World Cup qualifying matches, Osimhen was originally included on Finidi George’s 27-man roster for the international friendly against Ghana and Mali.

But he was forced to leave the team because of a muscle ailment he sustained in the round of 16 Champions League match against Barcelona.

The 24-year-old participated in the morning practice under Francesco Calzona, and based on a report from AreaNapoli, both he and Politano will be eligible for their encounter against Atalanta on March 30, which is the end of the international break.

Fans from Naples who attended the training session cheered for the former Lille star as he participated in the match with his colleagues.

Osimhen, meantime, is anticipated to depart Napoli this summer. A transfer to Chelsea or Arsenal in the Premier League is speculated to be imminent, while the French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain is also said to have expressed interest in the African Player of the Year.

It was confirmed by club president Aurelio De Laurentiis that Osimhen will go in the summer after the Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal made a substantial €130 million bid for the Nigerian striker.

Osimhen has helped Napoli secure a top-four position this season by scoring 14 goals in 17 league games as they faltered in their title defence.

With nine games remaining in the season, the Italian team sits seventh in Serie A, nine points behind fourth-place Bologna.

Osimhen has struggled to reach the high goals he scored for his club previous season—26 goals in 32 appearances—due to injury worries, international participation in the AFCON, and playing under three different coaches in 2023–2024.
