CAF Champions League Al Ahly had enough quality and deserved to beat TP Mazembe – Koller

Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller reacted to their victory over TP Mazembe and praised his side for their performance.

The Red Devils booked their spot in the CAF Champions League final for the 17th time in the club’s history after defeating Mazembe 3-0 on aggregate. Despite a fiery start to the second leg, Al Ahly left it late and struck three times through Mohamed Abdelmonem, Wessam Abou Ali, and Akram Tawfik.

“We expected Mazembe to be aggressive but we were prepared and the players fought for every ball,” Koller said in the press conference as quoted by Kingfut. “We had enough quality to create many opportunities and today we took them and scored three goals. I am really happy with our qualification.

“The fans were incredible today. I have worked in several countries and have never seen anything like that before.“Their presence is key, and today they were the 12th man and they pushed us a lot. I hope they will always be there for us,” he added.

The victory meant that Al Ahly will now meet Esperance in the final over two legs after the Tunisian giants eliminated Mamelodi Sundowns.
