TP Mazembe head coach Lamine N’Diaye has blamed their CAF Champions League exit on “one-sided” officiating by Kenyan referee Peter Waweru.
The Congolese outfit failed at the semi-finals hurdle after losing 3-0 to Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the return leg fixture on Friday night.
Despite a fiery start to the second leg, Al Ahly left it late and struck three times through Mohamed Abdelmonem, Wessam Abou Ali, and Akram Tawfik to qualify 3-0 on aggregate. Speaking after the game, N’Diaye said they had lost because of poor officiating by centre referee Waweru whom be accused of playing a negative hand in the outcome of game.
“We must talk about it; we lost by three goals, which angers me,” said N’DIaye as quoted by Kingfut, adding: “I am frustrated because I know well that we are in Africa; if we want to progress, the referees must be serious and better than that.
“The game was one-sided regarding refereeing, and I know well that we are human and can make mistakes, but I am frustrated, and this affected us and our focus. The referee played a negative role in this match, and Al Ahly does not need that.”
